Small Seascape Sunset Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" impasto painting

I don't know how you start your days, but, whenever possible, I love to grab my camera and a cup of coffee and head to the beach to watch the sun come up.  With a morning like that, it is impossible to have a bad day!

I like texture in my art and one of my favorite tricks, is to take a failed painting, leave the texture and use the panel again.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Many artists use their canvases more than once, but convential  wisdom is you must sand it down.  I
sometimes do that too, but if I want to do a little expressionism, I say, why destroy all that lovely texture?

Large Landscape Painting, Storm Painting, "StormFront" by Carol Schiff, 24x30x1.5" Original Oil Painting

In the tropics, the storms come in quickly and violently!  This large landscape painting attempts to convey the power and drama of these events.

I painted with a palette knife and tried to keep all the strokes visible and strong.

Some areas have extremely thick paint.

This is a study for a 48x60" piece that I am planning.

Small Abstract Painting, Daily Painting, Original Oil Abstract ,by Carol Schiff, 8x8x1.5"

It has been some time since I posted an abstract......this week I was in the mood to do some non-representative work.

I enjoy abstract, at times, as it gives me the opportunity to concentrate on composition and color relationships.  No drawing distractions!

I started this piece by creating lots of texture on the canvas, followed by a coat of acrylic cad. red.  Then the fun began as I brought out my oils and just pushed paint around until I was happy with the results.  It was that same feeling I used to get when I would stomp around in rain puddles as a kid.

I know I will soon go back to representative work, but today, I am happy with this,

This is worked with a palette knife.  I enjoy lots of texture, so I left it on this piece.  Maybe it is more of a skyscape?   Maybe it is more abstract or impressionistic?  Whatever it is, it reflects my mood at the time, whicch I think, is the point of painting.

Abstraction, daily painting, small oil painting, "and suddenly spring burst through", 6x8" Oil

This is my little ode to those brave first flowers of the season, that  burst through on a cold, gray spring day and brighten our lives.  Finally, proof that spring will soon be here!

Not so much in Florida, of course, but the mountains of North Carolina have given me new respect for winter.

Small Seascape, Wave Painting, Daily Painting, Small oil painting, "Cresting", 8x8x1.5"

For lovers of the sea!

I did a few small paintings where I focused in on a wave, instead of my usual long distance view.  I was not sure they would be successful, but they both sold quickly.  Both clients have similar reactions to them.....they felt the paintings revived wonderful memories of their times in or on the ocean.  I decided to try a few more.
